Above: a brief condensation of the last post, illustrated with metal type. I was having some problems minding my Bs and Ds that day, so be assured that I am as sick of reading as I am of “reabing.”
The other day, I was messing around with one of my newest shiny metal things — a full set of lower-case, 30 pt. Gill Sans metal type (my favorite typeface), which I won on eBay and then paid a bunch of money to have shipped to me. The set has some heft to it, which affected the mailing costs, but the real issue was that the letters and the seller were both in Britain, unsurprisingly (since Britain can also be referred to as Gill Sans Nation without too much exaggeration). Below are some better pictures of the letters — they’re actually pretty tiny, so this is where the macro setting on my camera came in handy.
I’m not sure what to do with these letters, other than create backwards messages for photos.
The “ffi” ligature. I can spell both “affianced” and “officious” without messing up the optimal letter spacing.
